In May 2024, Malaysia's Faisal Halim was attacked outside a shopping mall.
From behind by man in a black shirt and hat—who splashed him multiple times with concentrated sulfuric acid, and fled on a motorcycle.
He suffered a fourth-degree burns to his neck, shoulders, hands, and chest that required three weeks in hospital and four surgeries.
The assailant—captured on CCTV remains unidentified and at large.
Halim made his return to the national team this week, starting his first game for his country in 17 months, and marked it by scoring a 25yard free kick.
